There are many, many, MANY wedding photographers out there. You may have noticed this if you ever posted anything along the lines of "ISO: Wedding Photographer" on Facebook. If you have, you were most likely overwhelmed by the amount of responses you received! Photographers love to get wedding bookings. If they do other types of photography- none will be as profitable as a wedding shoot. Weddings provide a never ending supply of customers- people are always getting married! In terms of marketing and advertising- wedding photos are fun for customers to look at and easy to share with large audiences on your website or blog or Facebook page. So I can imagine that as a bride looking through the responses you receive it probably becomes hard to sort through and to really get to know who you are hiring.
I cannot speak for other photographers, or know that this isn't the case with them as well, but I feel like if I confess this... it may just make me stand out...so here it is:
CONFESSION: I LOVE WEDDINGS!!!
Yes weddings are great for profits and marketing, etc. But that is not what drives me to seek out work in this area. I just really LOVE weddings! I always have, and I'm beginning to realize I always will. I still get excited every time I head out to shoot a wedding. I get excited talking to a bride or a couple about their big day and their plans. I love seeing their visions come to life on the big day. I love the details that make each wedding so unique. I love meeting their family and friends and make sure I capture all the smiles and laughter that surround the couple on their day. I love the emotions that run high that day, from the father of the bride who can't stop either beaming with pride or trying to suppress his tears as he looks at his beautiful daughter, to the groom watching his stunning bride walk down the aisle, to the moment the bride or the groom breaks down in tears during the vows or when the maid of honor cries during her toast to the happy couple. There are countless others that occur throughout each wedding, and trust me, I am there watching for them and clicking my camera before you even know it. This is what I live for. This is my passion. This is what gives me joy.
Whenever a couple hires me as their photographer for their wedding I always respond with, "Thank you so much for choosing me!" And I mean it. Not just thank you for hiring me, but for choosing me. Choosing me to be a part of such a special and important day. Choosing me to capture all the beauty and emotion of that day. It is truly an honor for me, and I fully respect and appreciate the importance of that decision.
